When we planned this holiday we knew we wanted enough time to settle into a rhythm of sorts; we didn't want to rush from villa to activity to tourist destination. Travelling with children is a constant reminder that slow and simple is best, especially when you're navigating a new country. It's taken me a good week to feel settled here and to realise that it's best to let go of concern rather than focus on the risks (it hasn't been a graceful process).
We have a few more weeks to experience this island with its rich culture and deep spirituality. This is a land of people who smile big and with all their heart.

ReplyDeleteI would really love to know where you are staying while there. I am hoping to do a trip like this next year with our two littles and I really struggle to find family friendly accommodation. It looks amazing!

ReplyDeleteI have been scraping vanilla seeds from pods I bought at Ubud Market last summer to make our first ice cream for this spring (a lovely little piece of Bali to slip into your luggage). I can imagine the perils Poet must be facing daily - I took a slide on some slimy steps and nearly ended up tumbling down a ravine at six months pregnant. The missing pavement subsiding into open drains always had me a bit worried as well - especially come nightfall. But the relaxing bits outweigh the risks!

I love your honesty so much. I am sick of people denying the difficulties and speaking in platitudes online about their experiences. You admit to moments of un-grace (!) and focus on improving. I wish you a beautiful, replenishing holiday.
